About Kari Ramos
I’m Kari Ramos, one of the attorneys here at Ramos Law. I’ve been blessed with a life full of adventures and it’s important to me that others receive the representation they need after their own traumas so that they, too, can continue their own adventures free from unnecessary lingering effects.
As a young girl, I grew up in a tiny frontier town, in a large family. The combination instilled within me a deep love for people that I’ve held central throughout my life. In college, I studied brains, bodies and families and the different ways in which they develop and function together. I worked in radio and television and eventually left to become the Program Director of a statewide anti-violence coalition, training all levels of multi-disciplinary teams and partners to improve their responses to sex crimes and victims of violent crime. I chaired a Victims’ Rights alliance, served as a member of the Attorney General’s Victims of Crime Subcommittee and taught federal agents better ways to respond to victims of human trafficking and child abuse. For more than a decade, I also had the honor of personally advocating for sexual and domestic violence victims in their most trying times of need. I became a nationally certified self-defense instructor, a mediator and a hypnotherapist with a focus on trauma resolution.
Because I love women and care about their rights, I co-founded Fem-Sex at the University of Nevada, Reno and taught and mentored others to teach their peers about female sexuality. I was honored with the Social Justice Superhero Award, Advocate of the Year and received recognition for my work with tribal communities and at-risk teens and children. I was nominated as one of the Top 100 Most Influential & Inspiring People in Northern Nevada, and while all of that was incredibly rewarding, I knew there was more I could do to help people if I obtained a law degree. So, I set my fire and my heart to the task and attended one of the top law schools in the country (Hook ‘Em Horns!) and was a member of their award-winning mock trial team. I graduated from the Home of the National Crime Victims’ Law Institute (Northwestern School of Law at Lewis & Clark College) and spent time learning in the largest trial division in the country. I externed with the Los Angeles and Colorado LGBTQ centers and learned from the experts at the Rocky Mountain Victim Law Center and AEquitas, the Prosecutor’s Resource Center based in Washington, D.C. When it was all done, I took a year to explore the country via RV, hiking the national parks, flying my first (but not my last) helicopter and eventually, adopting two wild mustangs who are now training me more than I could ever train them!
When I learned Ramos Law had a heart for people and an environment full of professionals who deeply care about the clients they serve, my partner and I left our full-time RV life to join the Ramos Law team!
Outside of work, I love “trick” hula hooping, learning new acts on aerial silks and loving up my nieces and nephews. And if I’m not shooting firearms, riding my horses or scuba diving, check my cozy reading chair….chances are you’ll find me there with a cup of tea, a great book and a soft, cuddly blanket.
