February 17, 2026: Multi-Vehicle Crash Shuts Down I-25 Near Pueblo, Killing at Least 4
A 30-vehicle crash on Interstate 25 south of Pueblo has left at least four people dead and more than a dozen injured, according to the Colorado State Patrol. The crash occurred Tuesday morning, February 17, 2026, just after 10 AM near Milepost 92, on the outskirts of south Pueblo at South Gate.
State troopers reported that 29 people were taken to hospitals. UCHealth activated its incident command center and has treated at least 12 patients so far. St. Mary-Corwin Medical Center also activated its mass casualty alert, treating at least 7 patients.
State Patrol officials noted that the full extent of injuries and the total number of people involved remain unknown. Both northbound and southbound lanes of I-25 are closed, with southbound traffic particularly affected by low visibility.
Colorado Department of Transportation traffic cameras show a massive pileup of vehicles and emergency responders along the highway. Authorities have not released any details on what caused the crash, although several sources report that the crash involved at least six semi‑trucks in addition to passenger vehicles. Some outlets mention that animal control teams were dispatched because livestock escaped during the crash response
News outlets highlight that heavy winds and blowing dirt created “brown‑out” conditions that severely reduced visibility and contributed to the crash. A high wind warning was in effect for Pueblo County, with gusts up to 65 mph expected.
