Types of Auto Accident Cases We Handle Statewide

Colorado’s roads are as diverse as its terrain, from I-70 mountain corridors to Denver’s urban grid and rural highways cutting through the plains. We’ve seen how unpredictable and dangerous those roads can be.

At Ramos Law, we represent clients injured in all types of motor vehicle crashes across the state. Every case we take is investigated thoroughly, documented with precision, and built around your specific medical needs.

Common accident types we handle:

Rear-End Collisions

Frequent in stop-and-go traffic on I-25, Highway 36, and city arterials like Colfax or Academy Boulevard – often causing whiplash and back injuries.

T-Bone & Intersection Accidents

Common at major intersections from Colorado Springs to Greeley, often tied to red-light running or failure to yield.

Head-On Collisions

Especially dangerous on two-lane highways and mountain roads like US-285, US-50, and CO-9.

Drunk Driving Crashes

Often occur near nightlife districts in Denver, Fort Collins, Boulder, and ski towns like Aspen or Breckenridge.

Hit-and-Run Accidents

Increasingly common in urban and suburban areas – we work to uncover all available insurance, even when a driver flees the scene.

Pedestrian Accidents

Seen statewide near schools, parks, crosswalks, and busy downtown areas where foot traffic intersects with fast-moving vehicles.

Bicycle Accidents

Occur in bike-friendly cities like Boulder and Fort Collins, as well as on mountain roads and recreational trails where vehicle access is allowed.

Rideshare & Delivery Vehicle Collisions

With Uber, Lyft, Amazon, and DoorDash traffic growing, we handle complex liability cases involving commercial policies and third-party apps.

Every crash is different – and the legal, medical, and insurance implications are too. Whether your accident happened on a snowy pass or a suburban intersection, we’ll build your case with the care and strategy it deserves.

Common Injuries We See Across Colorado

Whiplash & Soft Tissue Injuries

Typical in rear-end crashes on urban arterials or congested highways - often dismissed by insurers, but very real in their impact.

Spinal Cord Injuries & Herniated Discs

Can result from rollovers, T-bones, or high-speed highway wrecks - requiring MRIs, long-term care, and expert medical analysis.

Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBI)

From concussions to life-altering brain trauma, especially common in head-on or side-impact collisions.

Fractures & Broken Bones

Occur in pedestrian crashes, bicycle accidents, and side-impact collisions at high speed.

Internal Injuries & Organ Damage

Caused by blunt force trauma - often missed initially, but life-threatening without prompt medical attention.

Facial Injuries & Lacerations

Common from shattered glass, airbags, or impact with vehicle interiors.

Burns & Scarring

May result from fires, explosions, or exposure to hot metal or chemicals during and after the crash.

PTSD & Emotional Trauma

Just as real as physical injuries - common in crashes involving fatalities, children, or severe bodily harm.

If you’re feeling pain, dizziness, confusion, or new symptoms in the days after a crash, don’t wait. We’ll help you get the care you need, and build the evidence to make sure it counts.

Ramos Law

What To Do Immediately After an Auto Accident

In the moments after a crash, everything can feel like a blur. It’s easy to miss critical steps that could impact your health, your recovery, and your legal case.

Here’s what we recommend to protect your health and your legal rights:

1. Call 911 Immediately

Always report the accident to local law enforcement. Whether it’s Colorado State Patrol, a county sheriff, or city police, having an official crash report is essential. Officers will:

  • Document what happened
  • Secure the scene
  • Coordinate emergency care if needed

Pro Tip: Even if the other driver begs you not to call, do it anyway. Your safety, and your legal case, depend on it.

If it’s safe, use your phone to photograph:

  • Vehicle damage
  • Road conditions and signs
  • Your injuries
  • Skid marks, debris, or broken glass
Also, try to get names and contact info from witnesses. Their statements can make a big difference later.

Warning: Do not post accident photos on social media. Insurance companies can twist your posts to minimize your claim.

Even if you feel “fine,” get checked out at a hospital, urgent care, or primary care provider. Common crash injuries (like whiplash, concussions, and internal bleeding) don’t always show symptoms right away.

Prompt treatment helps:

  • Protect your health
  • Create medical records that link your injuries to the crash
  • Prevent insurers from downplaying your claim

The sooner you speak with a lawyer, the better. We can secure evidence, handle the insurance runaround, and help you avoid costly mistakes.

At Ramos Law, our team includes doctors and attorneys. We don’t just understand how to fight for you – we understand what you’re going through, medically and legally.

Where Accidents Happen in Colorado

Crash data from 2020 to mid-2025 paints a clear picture: Colorado’s most dangerous roads run straight through the Front Range.

Denver County recorded nearly 85,000 crashes in that span – far surpassing every other county, with Adams next at 56,310

And it wasn’t just volume. Denver also saw 349 fatal wrecks and over 3,000 serious-injury crashes, making it the most severe traffic hotspot in the state.

But the danger doesn’t stop at the county line.

Crash density stays high through Adams, Arapahoe, Jefferson, and Douglas Counties, and continues south through El Paso County (Colorado Springs). To the north, Weld, Larimer, and Boulder also show elevated serious-injury and fatal crash rates.

This entire corridor follows the I-25 spine – the most heavily trafficked artery in Colorado.

Meanwhile, mountain, plains, and Western Slope counties tell a different story. Some recorded as few as 36 crashes over five years. These low-volume regions contrast sharply with the metro concentration of collisions, injuries, and fatalities.

And while headlines often focus on fatal crashes, the numbers show a deeper issue:
Serious injuries outnumber deaths many times over in every part of the state.

At Ramos Law, we use this data to support your case, because where your crash happened matters just as much as how it happened.

Factors That Affect Case Outcome

The value of an injury claim in Colorado depends on much more than just medical bills. Case outcomes are shaped by how the crash happened, how it affected your life, and how well your legal team builds the evidence.

From liability disputes to long-term medical care, these are the factors that can increase, or limit, the compensation you receive.

Injury Severity

More serious injuries often lead to larger settlements or verdicts, but also more complex cases. If you’re dealing with surgery, hospitalization, or permanent impairment, your attorney may wait until you reach maximum medical improvement (MMI) before finalizing a claim.

Medical Expenses: Past & Future

The full scope of your treatment matters. Emergency care, physical therapy, follow-up visits, medications, and projected long-term care all factor into your compensation. It’s not just about what you’ve already paid, it’s about what you’ll still need.

Lost Income & Reduced Earning Power

If your injuries kept you from working, or you can’t return to the same job, those losses must be documented. Pay stubs, employer letters, and expert opinions on future earnings often help support this part of the claim.

Emotional & Psychological Trauma

Pain isn’t always visible. PTSD, anxiety, and depression can impact your life just as much as physical harm. We work with mental health professionals to fully document these effects and ensure they’re accounted for in your recovery.

Type of Vehicles Involved

Larger vehicles like trucks, buses, or delivery vans tend to cause greater damage and more severe injuries. Commercial vehicles also introduce additional legal layers, such as employer liability and higher insurance limits.

Insurance Limits

Your compensation may be capped by how much insurance coverage is available. That includes the at-fault driver’s liability policy and, in some cases, your own underinsured motorist (UM/UIM) coverage.

Liability Disputes

Colorado follows a modified comparative negligence rule. If you’re found to be 50% or more at fault, you recover nothing. Establishing who caused the crash, and by how much, can significantly shift the final outcome.

Quality of Legal Representation

A skilled lawyer knows how to gather evidence, document injuries, counter insurance tactics, and fight for every dollar you’re owed. At Ramos Law, we bring together legal experience and medical insight to build stronger, more accurate claims from day one.

Determining Liability Under Colorado Law

In Colorado, the person or party responsible for causing a crash is also responsible for the damages. That might sound straightforward but in practice, proving fault often requires detailed evidence, expert analysis, and a firm grasp of state liability rules.

When Another Driver Is Clearly at Fault

Speeding, distracted driving, drunk driving, and red-light violations are all common causes. If the other driver caused the crash, their insurance company is responsible for covering your losses including medical bills, lost wages, and vehicle damage. Colorado drivers are also offered uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage (UM/UIM) when they buy a policy. If the at-fault driver has no insurance or too little to cover your losses, this coverage can fill the gap.

When Multiple Drivers Share Blame

Colorado follows a modified comparative negligence rule (Colo. Rev. Stat. § 13-21-111). If you’re found partly at fault, your compensation is reduced by that percentage. But if you're 50% or more responsible, you can't recover anything. Example: A jury finds you 20% at fault for speeding, but the other driver is 80% at fault for running a red light. A $100,000 award would be reduced to $80,000.

When the Vehicle Itself Is Defective

Some crashes happen because of product failure like faulty brakes, blown tires, or malfunctioning airbags. In those cases, responsibility may fall on the manufacturer, distributor, or repair shop under product liability law. These claims often require deep technical investigation and may involve recalls or known safety defects.

When a Commercial Vehicle Is Involved

If a truck, delivery van, or rideshare vehicle caused the crash, the employer or carrier may share responsibility. Companies are held to strict safety standards under federal and state law. We look at: (1.) Driver logs and training records (2.) Vehicle maintenance history (3.) Hiring and supervision policies When corporate negligence is a factor, it opens the door to additional sources of compensation, and a more aggressive legal strategy.

COMPLIMENTARY CONSULTATION

Compensation You May Recover

Auto accident injuries can leave lasting physical, financial, and emotional damage. Under Colorado law, you’re entitled to pursue compensation that reflects the full impact of what you’ve lost, not just the obvious costs.

At Ramos Law, we work closely with your medical providers and financial experts to calculate what your recovery is truly worth.

What your compensation may include:

CategoryWhat it Covers
Medical ExpensesER visits, surgeries, physical therapy, imaging, prescriptions, follow-up care
Lost WagesTime missed from work, including hourly pay, salary, PTO, or gig income
Reduced Earning CapacityIf injuries limit your ability to return to your job or earn at the same level
Pain and SufferingChronic pain, reduced mobility, emotional trauma, and loss of enjoyment of life
Property DamageRepair or replacement of your vehicle and any personal property damaged in the crash
Out-of-Pocket CostsTransportation to medical visits, home care, childcare, or assistive equipment
Future Medical NeedsLong-term care, rehabilitation, surgeries, or medications you’ll need going forward
Wrongful Death DamagesIn fatal accidents, survivors may recover funeral costs, loss of support, and more

We don’t rely on formulas or quick settlements. Every claim is built with expert input, detailed documentation, and a long-view approach that accounts for future needs, not just today’s bills.

Colorado Auto Accidents FAQ

If your accident involved injuries, vehicle damage, or disputed fault, it’s critical to consult with an attorney. Legal guidance ensures your rights are protected and evidence is preserved.

Under Colorado law, the statute of limitations for motor vehicle accident claims is generally three years from the date of the crash (Colo. Rev. Stat. § 13-80-101).

Colorado follows a modified comparative negligence rule (Colo. Rev. Stat. § 13-21-111). If you are found to be 50% or more at fault, you cannot recover damages. If your fault is less than 50%, your compensation is reduced by your percentage of fault.

Yes, if you carry uninsured/underinsured motorist (UM/UIM) coverage. Colorado requires that UM/UIM coverage be offered with every policy (Colo. Rev. Stat. § 10-4-609).

Case value depends on your medical expenses, lost income, pain and suffering, and the extent of long-term damage. Each case is evaluated based on documentation and evidence.

Call 911, get medical attention, document the scene, and speak to an attorney. Early legal intervention helps preserve evidence and avoid missteps with insurance companies.

Timelines vary. Minor injury claims may settle in a few months. Serious injuries, surgery, or liability disputes can extend the process to a year or more.

Not without speaking to a lawyer. Early offers are often lower than the full value of your claim, especially if future medical care or lost income isn’t factored in.

Crashes involving delivery trucks, rideshares, or company vehicles may include corporate liability. These cases often require investigation into company policies, vehicle maintenance, and driver logs.

High-risk corridors include I-25, I-70 through the mountains, Powers Boulevard in Colorado Springs, and Colfax Avenue in Denver. Documenting the location helps identify road design or traffic pattern issues.
