The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) faces criticism as pilots express concerns about disclosing mental health treatment. They claim that the stringent policies set forth by the FAA punish them for seeking help.

Pilots argue that the FAA relies on self-reporting for mental health treatment but with significant consequences – immediate grounding, potential out-of-pocket expenses, and loss of income during evaluations. Rather than assist them, critics claim that the policies keep pilots from seeking help and lead to mental health crises.

Ramos Law’s Joseph LoRusso suggests a significant change in FAA regulations. In a November Business Insider article, he stresses the need for a supportive environment that enables pilots to seek counseling without FAA scrutiny.
