There is an unfortunate reality and that is we all know someone living with a life threatening illness. Whether it’s a loved one, neighbor, or an individual in our communities, there are thousands of people in Colorado fighting to stay alive everyday. Project Angel Heart was started in 1991 to help people in our state suffering from HIV/AIDS get the proper nutrition they need. For a person battling a life threatening illness, the tasks of organizing, shopping, and preparing meals can be daunting. In addition, the added expense can be a huge financial strain when piled on top of extensive medical bills. What started off as a small community project has blossomed into a thriving organization, helping to feed Coloradans living with cancer, kidney/heart/lung disease, HIV/AIDS, multiple sclerosis, and other life-threatening illnesses.

How It Works

Project Angel Heart is primarily run through the generous support of thousands of volunteers who help organize, cook, package, and deliver meals to people in need. In addition, Project Angel Heart also coordinates with local restaurants and corporate sponsors to ensure that anyone who needs help during rough times can receive meals for free.

Included in the weekly meal package is 5 uniquely crafted entrees that vary from week to week. Project Angel Heart also caters to a variety of medical and dietary requirements. When a “Naked Diet” (no seasonings or sauces), a Renal/Diabetic Diet, a Low Fat and Sodium Diet, or a Vegetarian Diet is required, Project Angel Heart has delicious meals to fit their client’s needs. Many people also qualify to receive a balanced breakfast package through the program. The meals are delivered weekly by volunteers who receive a specific route and client base.

Project Angel Heart Summer Cereal Drive

The month of July is busy at Project Angel Heart. They are running their annual cereal drive with the goal of collecting 4,000 boxes of cereal to give out through the breakfast program. Project Angel Heart is reaching out to the community along with asking organizations and companies to help them in this endeavor.
